The 38th Annual Scientific Sessions of the College of Dentistry and Stomatology Sri Lanka (CDSSL) were held on the 5th and 6th of April 2025 at Waters Edge, Colombo, under the guidance of CDSSL President, Dr. Gishan Edirisinghe.
The inauguration ceremony on April 5th was graced by Chief Guest Prof. Vajira Dissanayake, President of the Sri Lanka Medical Council and Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo. The Guest of Honour was Prof. D.Y.D. Samarawickrama, Professor Emeritus at Queen Mary University of London. The Scientific Sessions were chaired by Dr. Dhanushka Leuke Bandara.
A key highlight of the inauguration was the conferment of the prestigious Fellowship of the College of Dentistry and Stomatology Sri Lanka (FCDSSL) on Prof. B.M.H.S.K. Banneheka, in recognition of his exceptional contributions to dental education and practice. Another significant moment was the delivery of the 6th Sunil Fernando Memorial Oration by Prof. H.R.D. Peiris from the Department of Basic Sciences. His presentation, titled “Dental Anthropology – A Vital Tool in Human Evolution, Forensic Sciences, and Clinical Dentistry,” underscored the interdisciplinary impact of dental research.
CDSSL Research Grants for 2025 were awarded to Dr. K.L.M.M. Perera and Dr. M.N.J.A. Ramanayaka in the categories of ‘Public Health’ and ‘Clinical’ research, respectively.
Dr. Dilini Ratnayake from the Department of Community Dental Health, Faculty of Dental Sciences, University of Peradeniya, received the award and cash prize for the Best Oral Presentation during the free paper sessions.
The second day of the sessions, held on April 6th, featured a rich programme covering a broad spectrum of interdisciplinary topics from clinical practice to ethical considerations and leadership in dentistry delivered by a panel of esteemed speakers across various disciplines.
The sessions concluded with the Annual General Meeting, during which Dr. Dhanushka Leuke Bandara was elected President of the CDSSL for the term 2025/2026.
